The Healthy Side of Pecans
Many new year resolutions include being healthier….well did you know that our favorite nut, the pecan, is a healthy snacking alternative?
Pecans are listed as one of the top foods rich in Omega-3s and antioxidants, which are known to be good for heart health and disease prevention. One of those antioxidants is vitamin E, can help with cell damage in your body.
Pecans are full of essential minerals, such as manganese, copper and magnesium. A one-ounce serving (approximately 20 halves) is 60% of your daily allowance for manganese and 15% daily allowance for copper.
Of course, when it comes to any sort of nut, its important to keep serving sizes in mind. Pecans, like most tree nuts, have a higher fat content, with a single ounce serving coming in around 20 grams of fat. Luckily most of those fat grams are unsaturated, healthy fats and have been proven to help lower LDL (the bad cholesterol).
So this new years, pass over the salty chips and opt for flavorful and healthy pecans instead!
